Making the decision to begin counselling can sometimes be a difficult one yet often is a most rewarding experience. Men and women of all ages receive counselling for many different reasons. They may be feeling anxious, unfulfilled or confused. They may be feeling dissatisfied with the quality of their relationships or puzzled by their reactions to events or people. Perhaps they may be struggling to cope with a recent life crisis such as an accident, bereavement or divorce, a stressful situation at work, or a lack of confidence that could benefit from counselling. It might be that they are simply feeling that something's not 'quite right'.
Sharing your concerns can often help you clarify the problem yourself. As a counsellor, I am trained to listen and will try to understand what you are feeling. In order to understand your feelings you may need to look at the past and see where such feelings originated and how they developed. I will be able to explore these with you so that we both come to understand the issues more clearly. I will not give advice but instead will offer an opportunity to look at your situation from several angles so that you can decide for yourself what you would like to try and do about it. You will be helped to recognise your own strengths and resources and perhaps even discover new personal qualities. Counselling is not only a place to explore difficult issues, it is also a space in which to grow and develop and enjoy a more positive approach to life.
